Community Involvement
When Grantham relocated to Kansas City, Missouri after Hurricane Katrina, the assistance and warm welcome we received from the local community was incredible. At Grantham, we have always had a mission to give back to the communities in which we live and work. The generosity and support provided by the citizens of Missouri post-Katrina really brought that mission into focus. It is a part of our culture to always be good corporate citizens by donating time and funds to worthwhile causes.
Kansas City Aids Walk
For the third year in a row, Team Grantham participated in the Annual Kansas City AIDS Walk to benefit the AIDS Service Foundation. This year’s walk took place at Theis Park on Saturday, April 25th. Team Grantham collected $1,650 to help women, men and children living with HIV/AIDS in the Kansas City Community.
Through corporate sponsors, generous donations from the community, over $3,500 walkers, the 2009 Kansas City AIDS Walk raised $400,000 for the AIDS Service Foundation.
Race for the Cure
On Sunday, August 9th, Team Grantham participated in the 16th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure by raising $615 for breast cancer awareness. In addition to the funds raised by Team Grantham, our team was the largest School/University that participated and the University was a Silver Sponsor for the second year in a row, donating $10,000 to support Komen Kansas City’s local grant program that funds not-for-profit, direct patient care providers for breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment programs. This year’s Kansas City Race for the Cure raised an astounding $1.2 Million with the involvement of over 28,500 participants. With a cause that affects so many people, this is one of Grantham’s favorite philanthropic activities to support.
Salvation Army & Toys for Tots
Grantham University understands that the holiday season can be hard for children all around the Kansas City metro area, so each and every year Grantham University takes an active role in collecting toys for the Salvation Army’s Toys for Tots drive. In 2008, Grantham collected over three barrels full of toys for kids in the Kansas City area. Grantham University and its employees take special pride in helping the U.S. Marine Corp provide gifts for children in need. In addition to the Toys for Tots program, the GU Katrina Relief Fund donated $15,000 to the Salvation Army to aid Midwestern families in times of disaster. This great organization is one of the University’s key philanthropic organizations.
Della Lamb
Each year, Grantham University is the largest donator of food items for Della Lamb’s Operation Thanksgiving. Della Lamb is a community service organization that helps local families in need. For Operation Thanksgiving, Della Lamb works to collect food to donate and pass out to families during the holiday season. Over the last two years, Grantham University has donated almost 3,000 canned and boxed food items to the Thanksgiving food drive. Grantham works closely with Della Lamb to help families in the Kansas City community and to donate the supplies necessary to ensure that as many Kansas City families as possible are able to have a happy and fulfilling Thanksgiving Holiday.
Grantham’s Community Volunteer Program
Not only does Grantham University support the local community, but we also encourage our employees to take an active role in getting involved. To foster this hope, the University offers eight (8) hours of paid volunteer hours to each employee every year. This allows Grantham’s “Life Changers” to get involved and support the charities that mean the most to them.
