About the University

Kansas City, now home to Grantham UniversityGrantham University, established in 1951, offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Computer Science, General Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, and other technology related fields.

Grantham University developed as part of the traditional college and university movement of the late 20th Century. In 1951, Grantham opened its main campus in Southern California. Within 8 years, Grantham grew to include resident campuses that spanned the United States from Seattle to Kansas City to Washington, D.C.

As interest in Grantham's degree programs extended beyond its campuses, the college developed distance education programs to serve a geographically dispersed student body. As the demand for distance education increased, the University consolidated its residential campuses into one location just outside New Orleans, Louisiana in 1991. In the late ‘90s it began offering degree programs exclusively online until Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast region on August 29th, 2005, destroying over eighty percent of Grantham University’s buildings. Fortunately, Grantham University had been planning to open a satellite campus in Kansas City, Missouri. As a result of Katrina, those plans were accelerated and the move to Kansas City occurred seven days after the hurricane hit.

Kansas City, now home to Grantham University - the 7th largest four-year degree granting institution in Missouri, is a city rich in history and tradition. The city is much more than the jazz and barbeque of decades past; it has developed into a bustling metropolis that is known for its foreign trade zone, its underground storage industry, and its automobile assembly plants. During the winter months, Kansas City is home to one of the nation’s largest Christmas trees and SouthernLiving describes it as the “city of lights." Kansas City is said to have more fountains than any city except Rome and more boulevards than any city except Paris.

Just as Kansas City is proud of its history and tradition, Grantham University is proud to celebrate 56 years of service to working adult students. Grantham University’s degree programs are designed to meet the needs of today’s working professionals. You can complete your course work at times and places that fit your busy schedule. Grantham’s academic model is student centered with online faculty support focused on academic accountability.

Grantham's faculty, administration, and advisors are comprised of educators, business executives, industry professionals and entrepreneurs. Among them are Dr. D. Bruce Merrifield, former Assistant Secretary of Commerce under President Reagan and an endowed chair at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania; Dr. Herbert I. London, founder, endowed chair, and former Dean of Students at New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study; and Dr. Mark Skousen, economist, financial advisor, author and economics professor at Columbia University's Barnard College.

As Grantham University celebrates its 56th anniversary, students all over the world are counted among our student body and alumni. Grantham looks forward to the promise of technological advances waiting to be harnessed in an emerging global marketplace. The University is in the business of helping those willing to study and work hard to achieve their dreams and it's proud of this tradition.
