Career Opportunities

GU100-Student Success Instructor

GU100 Instructors

  • Have admirable altruistic notions and expect to make a difference in the world through their students
  • Understand the mission and core values of Grantham University and are fully and truly committed to them.
  • Provide the first impression of the mechanics and workings of the Grantham system, and give students insight into how their expectations will be met.
  • Demonstrate, by example, how the university plans to meet the promises outlined to students in the university catalog and during the admissions program.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a minimum of a Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in an area that supports the GU100 course (Education, Counseling,  Psychology)
  • Must have prior online teaching experience
  • Must be willing to serve the rotation of 8 weeks in GU100 course instruction and 6 subsequent weeks of advising and supporting those students.
  • Must have a strong understanding of the adult student learner profile and use appropriate methodologies to target student success

Initial Responsibility

  • You will be required to work through an unpaid self-paced training course written specifically for GU100 faculty. You can complete this at your own pace, but all assignments must be completed within the 10 day allotted timeframe.

Weekly Responsibilities

GU100 instructors will be provided with syllabus, assignments, text, and weekly overview announcements for each course.  Grantham’s premise behind doing this is to make the GU100 course content physically pre-managed from the onset, so that the instructor can dedicate him/herself to the student-centered social and interactive management elements of the course, rather than content management.  Pedagogically speaking, the instructor now can use the majority of the time to interact with students, and support them in their growth, rather than work behind the scenes on course issues.  As such, Grantham expects the facilitator to be highly engaged with students for the entire 8 weeks. The following timeframes must be adhered to as part of contract acceptance:

  1. Grantham’s courses function on an 8-week schedule.
  2. Weeks begin on Wednesdays (day 1) and end on Tuesdays (day 7).
  3. Assignments (discussion questions, journals, and projects) are due by Day 7 (Tuesday) midnight CST, in the given week.
  4. Instructors are required to be actively online, engaged with students 4 out of 7 days per week.  (Answering questions, checking in on needy students, participating on Discussion Board, in chat rooms, etc.)
  5. Emails must be answered within 2 calendar days.
  6. Feedback on assignments must be graded within 3 calendar days.
  7. Brief weekly announcements must be posted each Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.  These are provided for you, but we encourage you to incorporate a personal beginning to each weekly announcement that speaks to the personal focus and relationship that you have built with your students.
  8. Submit all reports as required by deadlines to appropriate university departments.
