Instructional Designer
Position Description
An Instructional Designer works with SME's (subject matter experts) or from content, to convert instructional content to web-based instruction. Must have strong proficiency using web and graphic design tools with the skills below
- Designs and develops courses and learning material that support course needs.
- Researches instructional material needs for courses already established but identified as needing change and updates
- Assists with the coordination and implementation of new initiatives, including material development, content delivery and progress tracking
- Assists in assessing quality and adoption of course material
- Reviews and revises learning materials (expert level MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and online training tools.)
- Plans, coordinates and conducts long and short-term projects as well as needs assessments
- Develops recommendation for instructional strategies.
- Schedules and coordinates workflow including establishing priorities for vendors
- Assists in design of instructor and end-user learning materials
- Researches developments in the e-learning industry including presentation aids, equipment, presentation techniques, adult learning methodology and related topics
Required/Preferred Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required in Instructional Design, technical communication, education or a related field, Masters preferred.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in developing training or higher education courses for adult learners utilizing computer/ web based instruction.
- Proven experience developing and managing e-learning materials. LMS (Learning Management Systems) such us ATutor, Dokeos, ILIAS, etc.
- Skilled in working in a cross-functional and collaborative team environment.
- Able to demonstrate a high level of conceptual thinking to participate in the development, revision, and evaluation of course materials.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate University standards and instructional design principles, policies, and procedures.
- A working knowledge of web-based software packages such as: Visio, Flash, Photoshop, and project
- Proficient in using information mapping theory/concepts or storyboarding to conceptualize the lifecycle of a course.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects with varying priorities.
