Military Programs and Outreach Regional Director

 

Responsibilities include developing an educational presence in and around military communities to provide individual student services; facilitate the retention and re-registration of new and continuing students; and organize educational and professional networking opportunities for students and their families.   Bases and communities include, but are not limited to installations in the vicinity of respective geographic region.  This position is field based, requires working from the incumbent’s residence and requires significant travel.

Responsibilities include but not limited to

  • Provides new and continuing students with educational opportunities to enhance their experience and encourage and facilitate course completion and degree attainment
  • Determines admissibility and facilitates evaluation of transfer credits for new and readmitted undergraduate and graduate students
  • Informs students, base education staff and family members about educational opportunities, admission, transfer of credit, financial assistance, and university policies and requirements
  • Informs students about educational alternatives based on their personal and professional interests
  • Serves as liaison for university to base education representatives, command structure, and military community contacts
  • Ensures thorough and consistent coordination with installation Education Officers and their staff in regard to base ingress and egress, personnel contact and compliance with all applicable University and DOD policies and best practices
  • Arranges student activities such as orientation meetings; guest speakers; networking and professional development events; and group study sessions
  • Recruits and trains part-time personnel as program expansion dictates
  • Coordinates programs and activities with other functional departments as needed
  • Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long-range plans
  • Conducts research and special studies and makes recommendations regarding policies and procedures impacting military students
  • Coordinates and prepares briefings and presentations to base education staff, base command, and community leaders
  • Represents University in local, regional, and national meetings and conferences related to military voluntary education and training
  • Other duties as assigned

Required/Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 3-5 years experience in online higher education programs with demonstrated responsibility for student retention and recruitment
  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required; a bachelor’s or master’s degree in any one of the following is desired:  Education; Continuing Education; Higher Education; Community Education; Education Counseling, or related field
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, evaluate and manage the work of others
  • Proven ability to work with new and continuing students
  • Ability to develop goals, follow-through on projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the all members of the University staff as well as local community leaders
  • Above average written and verbal communication skills
