On Saturday, June 27th, Grantham University will hold its 2009 Commencement Ceremony in Kansas City, Missouri. Commencement is a time to celebrate accomplishments, reflect on the past, and most importantly, look towards the future. All graduates, past, present and soon-to-be*, are invited, along with their families, to participate in commencement activities and to celebrate their success with fellow alumni, faculty and Grantham staff.

On Thursday, January 29th, Grantham University lost a long-time board member and friend, Brigadier General David “Bull” Baker (USAF Retired). General Baker served on Grantham University’s Military Board of Advisors and Board of Governors. He was also Senior Vice President for the Stanford Washington Research Group, which is part of Stanford Group Company.

Grantham University graduate, Ed Lundeen, considers himself a time management expert. In fact, if he didn’t have ten things going on at once, he’d probably get bored.

Since the inception of the Distance Education and Training Council’s (DETC) Outstanding Graduate Program twenty-five years ago, Grantham University has continuously awarded this honor to one of its graduates each year.

Team Grantham participated in the 15th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure by raising $1,020 for breast cancer awareness. In addition to the funds raised by Team Grantham, the University was a Silver Sponsor for the Race, donating $10,000 to support Komen Kansas City’s local grant program that funds not-for-profit, direct patient care providers for breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment programs.

Grantham University Engineering Management student, TSgt Robert Bucholtz, was one of three airmen that participated in the 19th annual North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Chess Championship in Brussels, Belgium in early August. The NATO Chess Championship brings together the best military chess players from 17 NATO countries.

When Jeremiah Woznick, a Navy veteran, first heard about Grantham University and the flexibility of its distance learning program, he admits that he was a bit skeptical. "I've never gone to a college class without being able to sit down in front of a teacher," commented Woznick.

Saturday, June 21st was a sunny day filled with well wishes for Grantham University graduates. Forty-four graduates made the trip to Kansas City with friends and family to walk across the stage and be formally recognized for their accomplishments. Over 300 guests attended the ceremony which was held at the KCI-Expo Center.

Grantham student Staff Sergeant Alvin Arguello has served with the Air Force for over 12 years and is currently stationed at Lajes Field in Azores, Portugal serving as a Non Commissioned Officer in charge of Personnel Security. As an Air Force Security Forces member, he has had the opportunity to see the world (110 different countries) including the Great Wall of China and the pyramids of Egypt.

On Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at the Distance Education and Training Council's (DETC) 82nd Annual Conference in Boston, MA, DETC graduates from all over the United States will be recognized for their hard work, dedication and academic excellence. Grantham University's 2008 Outstanding Graduate is Linda Sherrill.

Grantham Graduate Nominated for GREAT Award. Each year, the Career College Association (CCA) asks each member institution to nominate a recent graduate for its GREAT Award. Since its inception in 2004, the GREAT Award has honored recent college graduates who have overcome extraordinary difficulties and circumstances to be where they are today. This year, Grantham University nominated Sergeant First Class (SFC) William Simmons.

Happy Birthday Grantham University! On January 2nd, Grantham commemorated 57 years of helping working adult students change their lives and achieve their dreams of earning an undergraduate or graduate degree.
