Student Advisors

At Grantham University, you will receive the support of a student advisor (SA) throughout your chosen degree program. This SA, who is assigned to you immediately upon enrollment, will communicate regularly with you to keep you on track with your goals for degree completion, as well as celebrate achievements and assist in your educational growth.

With the goal of helping you perform to the best of your ability, the SA can help with:

  • Academic advising
  • Accountability to your academic plans
  • Academic motivation and goal setting
  • Initial help with specific non-academic issues (study habits, time management, etc.)
  • Referral to other appropriate University resources
  • Appropriate interventions for students identified as at-risk
  • Communicating to the proper department any concern you might have
  • Registering for courses each term

You are responsible for your academic decisions and education, and should communication any needs or concerns you might have to your SA for timely and effective resolution.

Student Advising and Learning Center

The Student Advising Learning Center (SALC) promotes student learning through the provision of tutoring, academic support and mentoring programs. SALC provides tutoring in many subjects if you ever struggle academically, although you are encouraged to seek help from your instructor prior to requesting a tutor.

SALC also offers a mentoring program. Peer mentors can assist you by helping with the transition to college and online learning, while faculty mentors serve as professional role models in their respective discipline.

Mission Statement

The Student Advising Learning Center enhances student learning by helping students develop the skills, attitudes, and behaviors necessary to succeed in an online learning environment. Through tutorial services, learning strategies instruction, academic support and mentoring, SALC strives to improve students’ academic performance and foster personal development.

Goals

  • Enhance student learning and academic achievement
  • Provide academic support and resources for students
  • Help students develop the skills, attitudes and behaviors necessary for self-directed learning
  • Help students identify learning styles and develop effective study strategies
  • Improve the academic performance of students who are struggling with coursework

Through SALC’s Early Alert System (EAS), if you happen to achieve less than desirable grades on either of your first two milestones, you will receive an email containing helpful study tips. SALC offers tutorial assistance to any undergraduate student who experiences academic difficulty and needs individualized attention in order to understand the fundamental concepts and principles of a course. An instructor or academic administrator typically refers a student to SALC; however, you may contact SALC by e-mailing salc@grantham.edu. SALC offers tutoring in all undergraduate academic programs and is available on an as-needed basis.

SALC also offers “The Writing Center” and “The College Algebra Center,” which are specific tutoring areas where you can self-enroll, attend live tutoring sessions and solicit help from faculty members.

Career Resources

career resourcesCreating resumes and searching for jobs can be overwhelming and time consuming, which is why Grantham University created a Career Resource Center. The Career Center offers students and alumni a variety of services to assist with attaining the tools, credentials and resources to be successful in searching for jobs. Staff is available to help with interviewing, resumes, cover letters, thank you letters, portfolios and general information about careers. You’ve invested a lot of time and effort in earning your degree, and Grantham wants you to make the most of it.
