General education courses include English, economics, humanities, social sciences, and general science.

General Education Requirements

Grantham requires a general education block of 42 credit hours for all Associate of Arts degrees. General education courses also comprise an important part of all other Associate and Bachelor degrees, but the number of credit hours is dependent on the major.

General education courses provide an understanding of the broader landscape the student will influence and be influenced by as he/she acquires knowledge in the major field and progresses in a career. They also provide the student with a solid intellectual framework with which to make informed decisions and contributions as an active citizen.

Grantham's 42-credit hour General Education (Gen Ed) block is divided into two main categories:

  1. Foundational skills courses
  2. Intellectual inquiry courses

The foundational skills courses are expected to provide the student with the skills necessary to acquire, evaluate, organize, and effectively present basic linguistic and mathematical information. The intellectual inquiry courses expose the student to a breadth of knowledge and provide the opportunity to develop depth in at least one area. Through these courses, the student discovers the various ways of thinking and imagining, acquiring knowledge, and expressing ideas in diverse fields.
