Interdisciplinary Studies Program Description
The Grantham Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) program is designed for the student who wants a well-rounded general education based on his/her needs. Achieving and/or developing effective writing skills is a major component of the IDS program as over 50% of the required courses involve writing for content and persuasion. This program differs from Grantham's General Studies program in that core topics are delved into more deeply. In this program, such topics as college algebra, computer essentials, computer applications, the basics of electronics engineering technology, physical and life sciences, psychology, philosophy, sociology, world history, business administration, and criminal justice are covered so that the student becomes well rounded in his/her education. Writing for content and communication is emphasized in most of these areas. Writing assignments typically involve essays, reports, critiques, letters and business-related correspondence, and projects.
