POSITION DESCRIPTION

The cybersecurity faculty is a full-time faculty member who is tasked with teaching in the computer science, information systems, and cybersecurity programs and representing the cybersecurity programs, assessment processes, and curricular needs.  Faculty are thoroughly committed to student success, and in that dedication, they perform weekly outreach to students to help them engage and succeed. They embed detailed constructive feedback in course assignments and adhere to a 2-day turnaround time for student inquiries and feedback.  Faculty are expected to serve on committees, perform administrative duties, and complete other tasks as assigned by the specific College Dean.  The faculty teaching workload is reduced dependent upon the amount of time committed to curricular and other functions.  As a faculty member, this position has responsibility for the cybersecurity program content and works with subject matter experts and the curriculum development department, providing input on content requirements to insure an appropriate student experience and assessment throughout the curriculum.  In addition, this position is responsible for establishing and maintaining assessment processes for the program, maintaining and meeting with a program advisory board, writing program reviews, and participating in programmatic accreditation documentation.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

Provide instruction in accordance with the philosophy of the University and within the scope of departmentally-defined courses, programs of study, and degrees.

  • Create a positive growth environment for student learning.
  • Cooperate and respond to faculty members, staff, and administrators regarding educational technology and support services that enhance the instructional process.
  • Assume responsibility to keep current in the field of study/area of expertise and continue to develop professionally in content, methodologies, and distance strategies.
  • Keep accurate electronic records for both the learning management system maintenance as well as the university records system and submit all records when required.
  • Adequately prepare for and personally conduct all assigned courses.
  • Provide “office hours” support and communicate (e.g., email, posting, livechat, etc.) in a timely manner with students, other faculty, staff, and College Dean, particularly on student concerns or issues.
  • Provide students, faculty, and staff with frequent, regular feedback and note progress toward course/program goals and objectives. Conduct fair evaluation (resulting in grades) and apply equally to all students.
  • Manage program assessment planning, mapping, rubric development, evaluation, and execution of continuous improvement.
  • Manage the program content and associated course content, including periodic program reviews.
  • Conduct programmatic advisory board meetings.
  • Create required documents for institutional and programmatic accreditation.
  • Make referrals to Support Services when a student’s scholastic or personal needs require special attention.
  • Participate actively in faculty development opportunities (internally and externally) and provide feedback concerning student and faculty issues.
  • Follow principles of good educational practice: provide ongoing contact between students, develop reciprocity/cooperation among students, use active learning techniques, give prompt feedback, emphasize time on task, communicate high expectations, and respect diverse talents and ways of learning.
  • Work with the dean and Chief Academic Officer to passionately drive retention rates
  • Participate to create proactive and early interactions with students within programs through teaching, phone calls, welcome forums, recorded videos, etc.
  • Serve as representative on University committees as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS AND DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Terminal degree required in Cybersecurity or closely related field
  • Experience with ABET assessment and accreditation process preferred
  • Demonstrated experience designing programs and courses in the field.
  • Experience working with faculty to strengthen course design preferred.
  • Knowledge of fundamental course design and andragogy as well as cross-course reinforcement of topics for outcomes assessment purposes.
  • Able to make decisions and work independently with exceptional problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Required proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Products, Internet, MS Project, course management systems, computerized assessment software, and web authoring software required
  • Knowledge of, and use of, the Blackboard Learning Management System preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with technicians and faculty
  • Able to gather, analyze, evaluate, and integrate information electronically
  • In-depth knowledge of distance learning educational models, adult learning styles, and technology-assisted instruction.
  • In-depth knowledge of curriculum design required
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required
  • Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and by telephone) and in writing.
  • Able to manage multiple projects, yet maintain close attention to detail and timeliness of work production.
  • Able to work in a positive team-oriented manner with a variety of people (students, faculty, staff, administrators, vendors, and members of the general public)
  • Language Skills: Able to read, analyze, and interpret common journals and legal documents. Able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Able to effectively present information to executive management, faculty, staff, and/or students.
  • Mathematical Skill: Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to present facts to faculty for departmental response. Able to deal with a variety of information presented in oral or written formats. Able to deal with non-verbal behavior in assisting with problem resolution.
