The Infrastructure Administrator II is responsible for the management of server and network hardware and software at the Grantham University offices and data centers. They will provide reliable service to students and staff by keeping software updated, maintaining current backups, proactive monitoring, and promptly responding to users’ requests.  The Infrastructure Administrator II will also provide tier 2 level support for technical issues encountered with the systems administered.  Duties may be extended to training users as needed.  This is a non-supervisory position. This position works on site in Lenexa, KS. 


  • Monitor server backup policies, ensuring backups are current and periodically performing backup restorations to test the integrity of the backup.
  • Keep all server operating systems, software packages, anti-virus, and installed applications on the latest patch level available after testing patches in a non-production environment.
  • Review server logs for application errors, user activity, and disk space usage.
  • Responsible for maintaining records related to network configuration, system changes, system downtime and equipment inventory.
  • Deploy new servers as needed by configuring hardware and installing the operating system and server applications.
  • Manage Active Directory Domain Services, DNS, DFS, and DHCP services.
  • Maintain configuration backups and firmware updates to network hardware.
  • Maintain the monitoring software’s server and service database for alerting and reporting.
  • Manage server network configurations, cabling, and connectivity.
  • Manage VMware hosts, clusters, and virtual machines.
  • Manage SAN devices and storage provisioning.
  • Manage network infrastructure to include routing, switching, wireless, and firewall technologies.
  • Manage security technologies (EX: IDS, IPS, SIEM, and Firewall), and ensure that anomalies are properly handled and security configurations for new threats are implemented.
  • Stay abreast on new and existing security threats that could cause an adverse impact on the university.
  • May be required to act as a project manager on small projects and when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with others in the IT team to deliver service requests and projects by established due dates.
  • Implement tools and solutions that facilitate the automation of IT infrastructure tasks. This can include network changes, virtual machine management, patching, or software deployments.
  • Stay abreast of changes within the IT Department and the university business systems and processes.
  • Take advantage of all available opportunities to increase positional knowledge.
  • Projects a professional and courteous image of the overlying position and the IT Department to all internal and external customers.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • 1 – 3+ years’ experience and some post-secondary education required.
  • Baccalaureate or Graduate degree in technology related field preferred.
  • Certifications such as VCP, Security+, Cisco certifications, Network+, MCSE/MCITP, Linux+, RHCE or others a plus.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Windows Server 2003/2008/2012 administration including Active Directory, WSUS, IIS, DNS, load balancing, clustering, DHCP, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Linux server operating systems with command line proficiency.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of VMware ESX , vSphere, and SRM.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge Cisco IOS, NXOS and ASA device configuration.
  • Intermediate knowledge of scripting languages and the ability to write automation scripts.
  • Intermediate knowledge of disaster recovery principles, procedures, and policies.
  • Basic business principles and business and industry-specific terminology.
  • Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and by telephone) and in writing.
  • Able to multi-task, yet maintain close attention to detail and timeliness of work production.
  • Able to work in a positive team-oriented manner with a variety of people (students, faculty, staff, administrators, vendors, and members of the general public).
  • Language Skills: Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Able to write simple correspondence.  Able to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situation to students, faculty, staff, and members of the general public.
  • Mathematical Skill: Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to present facts to faculty for departmental response. Able to deal with a variety of information presented in oral or written formats. Able to deal with non-verbal behavior in assisting with problem resolution.
