POSITION DESCRIPTION

Review, analyze, install, and modify systems to include configuring, testing, and debugging in support of the organization’s business processes and initiatives. This position works with IT Department management to develop, assess, and achieve short-term and long-term technical goals for the IT department and the University.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review, analyze, install, and modify systems to include configuring, testing, and debugging in support of the organization’s business processes and initiatives.
  • Consult with customers to identify current/desired operating procedures and to clarify program objectives so that assigned systems may be configured to support initiatives effectively
  • Evaluate business problems and revised operational procedures to identify potential enhancements to assigned systems to meet changing business requirements using technical expertise
  • Proactively analyze existing applications and systems to find value added modifications and/or enhancements using specialized knowledge of assigned systems
  • Serve as an escalation specialized technical support tier for assigned systems
  • Keep abreast of vendor roadmaps, upgrades, bug fixes, security patches/vulnerabilities in regard to assigned systems including guiding the organization’s actions to those changes
  • Work on projects when appropriate
  • Use/understand:
    • Databases
      • SQL
      • Oracle
        • Psql against Oracle databases
        • Weblogic
        • Oracle fusion middleware administrator
      • Windows Server 2012 or greater
      • Linux and/or Windows operating systems including:
        • Network diagnostics (ping, tracroute, netstat)
        • OS firewalls (Windows Firewall, Linux IPTables)
        • Network adapter configuration
        • App servers (IIS, Tomcat, Websphere)
        • Web application configuration
        • SSL Certificates (creation, configuration, maintenance)
      • Other duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS AND DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Associates degree in a relevant field is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area
  • Previous experience being a resident system expert in LMS, SIS, or ERP (Blackboard Learn or Ellucian Banner preferred)
  • Previous experience configuring and supporting installed or SAAS production systems
  • Previous experience in the Higher Education industry preferred
  • Basic to Intermediate knowledge of:
    • Database structures and queries in SQL and/or Oracle
    • Windows Server 2003/2008/2012 administration including Active Directory, WSUS, IIS, DNS, load balancing, clustering, DHCP, and PowerShell scripting
    • Linux server operating systems with command line proficiency
    • disaster recovery principles, procedures, and policies
  • Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and by telephone) and in writing.
  • Able to multi-task, yet maintain close attention to detail and timeliness of work production.
  • Able to work in a positive team-oriented manner with a variety of people (students, faculty, staff, administrators, vendors, and members of the general public).
  • Language Skills: Able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Mathematical Skill:  Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute averages, ratios, percentages, and other statistical measures.  Must be able to interpret graphs/charts (bar, line, pie. etc.)
  • Reasoning Ability: Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods of time.
