Mark your calendars for Grantham University's 2014 Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, August 9, held in the heart of downtown Kansas City, Missouri, in the Kansas City Convention Center's Grand Ballroom.

All graduates, past, present and soon-to-be*, are invited, along with your families and loved ones, to participate in Commencement activities and to celebrate your success with fellow alumni, faculty and Grantham staff.

* Students who will be enrolled in their last two (2) courses as of June 18, 2014, are eligible to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. (Participation in Commencement does not imply or assure degree conferral. Degrees are conferred when all requirements, including financial, have been met.) Please note: The University's Application for Graduation is not a registration form for Commencement.

Commencement Ceremony: 2 p.m. (Graduates should arrive at 12:30 p.m. for pre-ceremony instructions.)

Commencement Ceremony and Reception

The Commencement Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, in the Kansas City Convention Center's Grand Ballroom. We ask that you arrive for registration at 12:30 p.m., so we can provide you with instructions and line‐up for the processional. We anticipate that the ceremony will last between 2 – 2 ½ hours, with remarks from our Keynote Speaker; a hooding ceremony for our master's graduates; remarks from a representative of the Class of 2014; and individual recognition of each graduate.

Tickets will not be provided for Commencement. During the registration process, you will be asked to provide us with the total number of guests attending. This will help us ensure that there is adequate seating for everyone.

The reception will take place immediately following the ceremony and will last until about 5:30 p.m. During the reception, graduates and their guests are invited to enjoy complimentary light refreshments while mingling and celebrating with their fellow Grantham alumni and their favorite Grantham University Life Changers. Photographers will also be available to take graduate portraits and group photos in a designated area. These images will be available for purchase on the photographer's website a few weeks after the ceremony.

Commencement Fee

The University does not charge a Commencement fee, and there is no cost for your guests to attend the ceremony or the reception.

Parking Information

Parking for the Kansas City Convention Center is available in the Auditorium Plaza Garage, City-owned lots and privately owned lots. The parking facilities in the Auditorium Plaza Garage are available on a first come, first serve basis. On the day of the ceremony, parking will be $7. There is also additional parking available at 14th and Wyandotte for $5/day, as well as 13th and Broadway garage which is $10/day.

Event parking rates at City-owned lots are $5 to $8. Rates at privately owned lots vary by location and by event. Many parking garages are open 24 hours, but availability changes depending on the time of day. Metered, on-street parking is available and is free evenings and weekends. There are also surface lots throughout downtown.

What time will Commencement start and what time do I need to be there?

How do I buy tickets?

How much does it cost to attend Commencement?

While there is no cost to attend the Commencement Ceremony, students will be responsible for the cost of the following: regalia – including hoods and/or tassels, travel to and from Kansas City, hotel accommodations, and any other purchases you choose to make (i.e. – Grantham gear, diploma frames, etc.) 

I completed the Application for Graduation, does that mean I am registered for Commencement?

No. You must register to attend Commencement by visiting our registration page.

The Application for Graduation is separate from Commencement registration. Every prospective graduate of Grantham University completes the Application for Graduation. This should be completed during the last term, prior to finishing all of your coursework. An audit needs to be conducted of your student records to ensure that all of the necessary transcripts are on file, courses in the degree program have been completed, and all financial obligations are met.

If Commencement doesn't cost anything to attend, what does the $100 Application for Graduation fee cover?

The $100 fee covers the cost of processing, printing, packaging and mailing your diploma and your official transcript.

Is there anything going on following the Commencement ceremony?

Grantham is hosting a reception that will take place immediately following the ceremony and will last until about 5:30 p.m. During the reception, graduates and their guests are invited to enjoy complimentary light refreshments while mingling and celebrating with their fellow Grantham alumni and their favorite Life Changers. You will need to order your regalia. To order, visit college.jostens.com and type Grantham University in the box that prompts you to enter your school. What major/curriculum should I select to ensure the correct hood color for my regalia?

If you are receiving a Master of Business Administration, Master of Business Administration – Project Management or Master of Business Administration – Information Management, select Business Administration as your major/curriculum.

If you are receiving a Master of Science in Information Technology, Master of Science in Information Management – Project Management, Master of Science in Information Management Technology or Master of Science in Performance Improvement, select Science as your major/curriculum.

If you are receiving a Master of Healthcare Administration, select Health Care Administration as your major/curriculum.

If you are receiving a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), select Nursing as your major/curriculum.

Will I need to order an honor cord, or are those provided?

Honor cords are distributed by Grantham University to recognize students who have achieved academic excellence while pursuing their degrees. In order to receive an honor cord, students must meet the following grade point averages:

Undergraduate – At graduation, an undergraduate degree recipient achieving high academic performance is recognized according to his/her cumulative grade point average. The honor is determined as follows:

Summa Cum Laude – 3.90 to 4.00

Magna Cum Laude – 3.70 to 3.89

Cum Laude – 3.50 to 3.69

Graduate – At graduation, a master's degree recipient achieving high academic performance is recognized according to his/her cumulative grade point average. The honor is determined as follows:

With Distinction - 3.67 to 4.00

Will I receive my diploma during the Commencement Ceremony?

No. We do not hand out diplomas during the ceremony. Instead, you will be presented with a certificate of achievement as you cross the stage. This is in part because our coursework is based on terms rather than the traditional semester, and students graduate at different times throughout the year.

After your Application for Graduation has been received and the audit has been performed, your degree is conferred and the diploma is ordered. It will generally arrive in the mail 4-6 weeks following the completion of your degree, and the satisfaction of any financial obligations.
