Grantham University in Partnership with AFGE Awards Scholarship to United States Marine Corps Veteran Nathan Sporin

Nathan Sporin, an AFGE member has received at $38,600 scholarship from Grantham University.

The scholarship provides an American Federation of Government Employee member with up to $38,600 in tuition costs, required textbooks, software and fees.

Lenexa, Kan. – November 9, 2015 – Grantham University, a 64-year-old institution delivering accredited online degrees to working adults, veterans and active-duty military students around the world, has partnered with the American Federation of Government  Employees (AFGE), to award a full scholarship to Nathan Sporin an AFGE member. Sporin will be putting the scholarship to use for the Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Security he is pursuing at Grantham.

“Grantham offers several scholarships including the AFGE opportunity. We strive to make education available to those with a dream of professional and personal advancement,” said Steve Waldron, Grantham University chief operating officer. “We are delighted to award this scholarship to Nathan, and look forward to being beside him every step of the way.”

In Sporin’s scholarship essay, he stressed the importance of his AFGE membership. “My family and I will always be grateful for the stability union membership has granted us. It provides the capacity to prosper, which has been made possible by those who pioneered and continue to propel the labor movement,” said Sporin.

Sporin has served in the United States Marine Corps and currently works for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a journeyman electrician. He is a member of the AFGE Local 830.
