Lenexa, Kan. – June 2, 2015 – Do veterans make good employees? Can employers do a better job of helping former military personnel make a smooth transition into the civilian workforce? Grantham University, a 64-year-old institution delivering accredited online degree programs to working adults and active-duty military students around the world, will launch its signature lecture series with an event for business professionals to learn best practices and veteran hiring strategies, and receive advice in helping veterans transition to a corporate work environment.

“Given the flexibility of the online learning environment that Grantham University provides, a great percentage of our students are active-duty military,” said Dr. Jeffrey Cropsey, Grantham’s vice president for strategic initiatives and external relations. “We’re looking forward to sharing the strategies we’ve learned over the past 64 years in preparing our students for civilian careers, as well as sharing some of the best practices in veteran hiring from our expert panelists.” Before coming to Grantham, Dr. Cropsey spent over 38 years in the Department of Defense, managing military education and veteran placement programs, including the Troops to Teachers Program.

 According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, veteran hiring practices nationwide are improving.  However, there is still room for additional improvement as unemployment for post-9/11 veterans, ages 24-34, is a full percent higher than civilians in the same demographic.

Grantham’s veteran hiring lecture will be held on June 24, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grantham University in Lenexa, Kansas. Dr. Cropsey will moderate a discussion of veteran hiring practices with the following panelists:
