Grantham University Welcomes New President

Kansas City, Mo. – November 30, 2011Grantham University, a 60-year-old institution delivering accredited online degrees to working adult students around the world, announced today that it has named a new president, Mr. Joseph McGrath. McGrath, who has been with the University in a senior leadership role since 2001, was instrumental in facilitating the University's move from Slidell, La. to Kansas City, Mo. in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Prior to Grantham, McGrath served in Switzerland as the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer for a collection of private schools located throughout Europe and spent 25 years in the commercial and corporate banking industry.

"Joe has a great vision for the future of Grantham University," said Dr. Herbert London, chair of the board of governors. "The board is confident that his vision, combined with his background in education and business acumen will enable the University to grow and continue to fulfill its vital mission."

McGrath, a U.S. Army veteran, served as an officer at the NATO Headquarters LANDSOUTHEAST in Izmir, Turkey and as an officer at the Third Regional Assistance Command (TRAC) in South Viet Nam. He received a bachelor's degree in Government from Harvard College and a master's degree in Education from the University of Southern California.

"I am pleased that the Board has entrusted me to lead the University and carry out our mission and vision," commented McGrath. "Our institution has a great history and tradition of service to those who serve and I look forward to steering our future growth and continuing our mission of providing education that is affordable and accessible to all."

Earlier this year, the University celebrated its diamond anniversary - over 60 years of meeting the educational needs of working adult students. The University was founded in 1951 by a veteran, Donald Grantham, for veterans. Mr. Grantham had a simple mission and vision: to give veterans the option for continuing education and the opportunity to further their careers and create a better life for their families.

Sixty years later, Grantham University offers accredited online degree programs in a variety of majors including Business Management, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Engineering Technology, Information Systems Security, Medical Coding and Billing, and Nursing. Continuing Mr. Grantham's vision for the school, Grantham's flexible distance learning programs open the doors of opportunity for working adults to earn an associate, bachelor's or master's degree regardless of their location or work schedule.
