Providing education assistance to military veterans
Grantham University is grateful to those who have honorably served our country, as demonstrated by our Veterans Scholarship. The scholarship offers qualified students a reduced tuition rate of $250 per credit hour. A Textbook and Software Grant is also awarded to cover the cost of required textbooks and software.
Veterans of any of the United States Armed Services may be eligible for the Veterans Scholarship. Additionally, you must:
- Have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Provide a copy of DD Form 214 or your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) reflecting an Honorable or Medical Discharge.
The following information is intended to help you with the process for obtaining a Veterans Scholarship.
If you are a student using VA benefits, you must enroll in a degree program approved by the State Approving Agency and accepted by the VA. Therefore, your transfer credit must be evaluated by the end of your second term.
A Veterans Affairs Certifying Official (VACO) will certify your enrollment to the VA once you are enrolled. You must submit the Veterans Certification Data form, which is located within the online enrollment agreement, along with a DD Form 214 that shows type of discharge, and VA Form 22-1990 or VA Form 22-1995. Other forms that are preferred but not required are Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE).
While receiving VA educational benefits, you may be enrolled in two different institutions during the same term. The institution where you are pursuing a degree will be the Parent School.
If you are using VA benefits, you must obtain an authorization letter from the VACO at the Parent School addressed to the VACO at the secondary school. This form states that the courses taken at the secondary school will be credited toward your degree program.
If you are using VA benefits, you are responsible for informing the secondary school’s Veterans Office where your Parent School is located. The secondary school will complete the certification for the benefits form (VA form 22-1999) and send it to the VA.
The VA and the state of Missouri require schools to monitor student progress. To demonstrate compliance, you must abide by the University’s Attendance Policy. In addition to maintaining satisfactory progress, while using VA benefits, you must also comply with all University policies, including the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy.
If you fail to adhere to the Attendance and/or SAP policy, a termination letter (Form 22-1999b) is sent to the VA. Submission of Form 22-1999b discontinues VA benefits and may cause you to become indebted to the VA.
