This year, thirty-three graduates were chosen to join the ranks of over 615 graduates who have been named DETC Outstanding Graduates during the last 18 years.

Bailey was recognized for her excellent academic performance, and for her perseverance toward earning her degree in Computer Science. After being laid off and replaced by someone with a college degree, Bailey vowed that she would never be at a disadvantage again because she did not have a college degree. She began looking for a university that would suit her busy lifestyle and enrolled at Grantham University in 1998. In January 2005, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.

Bailey's success at Grantham has had a very positive impact on her career. "I am more confident and secure in my position as a technical support person for mainframe software packages," said Bailey. "At work, I have noticed that co-workers often look to me for answers."

Bailey, a lifelong learner at heart, has recently enrolled at Grantham to pursue a second degree, a Bachelor's in Business Administration.

About the DETC
The Distance Education and Training Council located in Washington, D.C. sponsors a nationally recognized accrediting agency called the "Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council."

The Council was founded in 1926 to promote sound educational standards and ethical business practices. The independent seven-member Accrediting Commission of the DETC was established in 1955; shortly thereafter it gained the approval of the U.S. Department of Education as the "nationally recognized accrediting agency" under terms of Public Law. The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) also recognizes the Accrediting Commission. For more information, visit: www.detc.org.
