d business news logoJune 13, 2007 - Grantham University (www.grantham.edu), an online university specializing in educating working adults, opened its bookstore in Kansas City's SubTropolis, the world's largest underground business complex. The bookstore will house, ship and receive Grantham University's textbooks for all of its undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The need for the bookstore arose when the University left Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and relocated to Kansas City.

"The site was ideal for our book distribution facility," said Tom Macon, chairman of Grantham University. "The underground site provides protection from severe weather and a natural, climate controlled environment, which is ideal for textbooks and supplies."

Grantham University leased the 13,000 square foot space, located at 8600 NE Underground, from Hunt-Midwest Properties. The facility has on-site security in place and is professionally managed. The SubTropolis, a subterranean industrial park with nearly five million square feet of leasable space, is home to more than 50 local, national and international businesses.

The Grantham University bookstore processes textbook orders daily to Grantham's students located around the world. Currently, the bookstore uses approximately 6,000 of the available 13,000 square feet of space. There's plenty of room for expansion as the University grows.

"Our bookstore currently houses more than 18,000 textbooks with more books on the way from our major publishing house vendors," adds Macon.

Grantham University offers online undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, General Studies, Computer Science, and other technology related fields. Grantham's degree programs are flexible and self-paced, allowing students to complete their course work at times and places that fit their busy schedules.

Grantham's faculty, administration, and advisors are comprised of educators, business executives, industry professionals and entrepreneurs. Among the advisors are Dr. Herbert I. London, founder, endowed chair, and former Dean of Students at New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study; John Ashford, an advisor to Fortune 100 companies as Chairman and CEO of The Hawthorne Group; David E. Baker, Brig. Gen. (USAF, Ret.), a decorated fighter pilot and Senior Vice President for the Stanford Washington Research Group; and Rear Admiral Karen Harmeyer, former Chief Staff Officer, Navy Surgeon General, OPNAV 093R.
