Amy SmithAt Grantham University, faculty members are dedicated to teaching quality courses for students who are serious about working toward a better and brighter future. Accessibility and affordability don’t jeopardize quality when it comes to your online education, because the courses are taught by experienced faculty members who are knowledgeable in their field of study and passionate about their students’ success.

Grantham is great because of its faculty members, like Amy Smith, who are dedicated to being Life Changers by helping students succeed every week. Mrs. Smith believes having a strong motivator is an important part of earning a degree, and she chooses to be there to help her students find motivation every step of the way.

Grantham University: What brought you to Grantham University?

Amy Smith: I have a really strong interest in helping others achieve their goals. I knew my experience in social services would translate well to becoming a Life Changer with a very talented [team]. Everyone was so committed to helping their students and getting them to graduation.

GU: What do you like most about being a Grantham faculty member?

AS: The chairs of the Foundations Program are such strong leaders. They motivate me to continually push the envelope and grow the program to new heights year after year.

GU: How do you offer support for your students?

AS: I focus on being proactive. I read and re-read all of the assignments in each of my classes to ensure they are clear, focused and direct. If I feel there is room for interpretation or confusion, I offer scaffolding tools to help my students succeed each week.

GU: How does a degree from Grantham help students accomplish their goals?

AS: Most students I work with are looking to move into another career field. Earning a degree from a reputable institution is a demonstration to an employer that a student is serious about changing the course of his or her career path and life.

GU: Do you have a particular research focus? Give us some highlights of your work.

AS: With Grantham, my research has focused on incorporating current events and outside material into the classroom to make it more accessible. The intent of embedding such materials is to bridge the gap between coursework and everyday life, both at work and in the home.

GU: Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking about going back to school?

AS: Going back to school is a big commitment; however, it is more possible than it has ever been with the flexibility and convenience of online learning. Have a clear plan of what it means to earn a degree. Having a strong motivator and a clear end-game will give each eight-week session more meaning and purpose.

GU: What are you most passionate about? What motivates you in life?

AS: My latest workout trick is timing my runs on the treadmill to coincide with cookies in the oven. I only have 20 minutes to complete it or those cookies will be ruined. What is a healthier motivator than that?!

GU: What do you think is an interesting tidbit about you?

AS: I watch more HGTV than I care to admit to.

GU: If someone was telling your story, what's one thing you would want the audience to know about you?

AS: I have the most perfect little girl that anyone could ever ask for.

GU: Do you have a tip that could help the type of students taking your classes?

AS: Coffee.
