Being an online student is much more than looking at a computer screen. You’re interacting with people from many different backgrounds, and can share and take in unique thoughts and perspectives. You’re taught by a group of “Life Changers” who are on the other side of the screen. At Grantham University, we know that with an online education, you are part of a community made up of educated instructors, helpful staff and eager students.
We had a chance to speak with one of our Mark Skousen School of Business instructors, Faith Bell, to learn a little bit more about her experience teaching for Grantham:
Grantham University: What brought you to Grantham?
Faith Bell: I have wanted to work for Grantham since 2008. I had a desire to teach online courses and liked the overall “culture” I saw on Grantham’s website.
GU: What do you like best about being a member of the faculty at Grantham?
FB: I am a part of an innovative, competitive, progressive team of highly educated Life Changers. They are very supportive and approachable.
GU: How do you provide support to your students?
FB: I really like when I am able to talk to the students on the phone. However, I have found that most of them like the idea of email, as well. I encourage students to keep trying and don’t give up on their dreams to succeed and make a difference.
GU: How does a degree from Grantham help people accomplish their goals?
FB: A degree from Grantham helps people get promoted. Students can exercise their newly acquired and marketable skills even before graduation to remain competitive in today’s workforce.
GU: Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking about going back to school?
FB: When going back to school, make sure that you are ready to commit to completing your degree and ask for support from your circle of family and friends while embracing your educational pursuits.
GU: Do you have a particular research concentration? Give us some highlights of your research.
FB: Recently, my associates and I found that when veterans have timely and necessary resources available to them beyond the educational aspect, they are more likely to complete their coursework.
GU: What is your proudest accomplishment?
FB: Recently, I would say that it was neat to run alongside my 11-year-old daughter, Miah, in the Girls on the Run 5K race this past May at Arrowhead Stadium.
GU: What are you most passionate about? What drives you in life?
FB: I like being able to help out the youth and mentor them. My daughters, Hannah and Miah, keep me on my toes or, better yet, rollerblades, as we skate on a regular basis.
GU: What do you think is the most interesting thing about you?
FB: I am willing to roll up my sleeves if I need to work hard. I have done quite a few things in life. I work hard, but I play harder. I like to sing, dance, laugh and just have fun!
GU: If someone were to tell your story, what would be the main thing you would want the listener to know about you?
FB: I never give up on anything I set out to do. I have learned from my mistakes, which led to greater blessings for me in the long run.
GU: Do you have a tip that could help the students taking your classes?
FB: Don’t be afraid to give it (the old) “college” try. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake. Don’t be afraid to learn from someone else, even if they don’t look or think exactly the way you do. Think beyond the laptop and make a difference!
