BSN Full-Time Faculty

POSITION DESCRIPTION


BSN Full-Time Faculty members serve in a virtual or residential capacity at the University.  Faculty is tasked to work a 51% of their time teaching and 49% on administrative duties.   The BSN Full-time faculty is expected to serve on committees, perform administrative duties, and complete other tasks as assigned by the specific Program Dean or Chair.  The faculty workload may be reduced dependent upon the amount of time committed to other functions.


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Aid in program review process through data gathering and analysis, as needed.
  • Assist in faculty mentoring program.
  • Assist Program Chair/Dean with faculty performance reviews
  • Assist in the proctored exam audit process
  • Document collection
  • Participate in programmatic outcomes assessment processes, including development of rubrics, assessment of artifacts, evaluation of results, and recommendation of changes based on results.
  • Serve as representative on University committees as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Dean and curriculum department on program course content and develop course content as appropriate and needed
  • Provide instruction in accordance with the philosophy of the University and within the scope of departmentally-defined courses, programs of study, and degrees.
  • Create a positive growth environment for student learning.
  • Cooperate and respond to faculty members, staff, and administrators regarding educational technology and support services that enhance the instructional process.
  • Assume responsibility to keep current in the field of study/area of expertise and continue to develop professionally in content, methodologies, and distance strategies.
  • Keep accurate electronic records for both the learning management system maintenance as well as the university records system and submit all records when required.
  • Adequately prepare for and personally conduct all assigned courses.
  • Provide “office hours” support and communicate (e.g., email, posting, livechat, etc.) in a timely manner with students, other faculty, staff, and College Dean, particularly on student concerns or issues.
  • Provide students, faculty, and staff with frequent, regular feedback and note progress toward course/program goals and objectives. Conduct fair evaluation (resulting in grades) and apply equally to all students.
  • Make referrals to Support Services when a student’s scholastic or personal needs require special attention.
  • Participate actively in faculty development opportunities (internally and externally) and provide feedback concerning student and faculty issues.
  • Follow principles of good educational practice: provide ongoing contact between students, develop reciprocity/cooperation among students, use active learning techniques, give prompt feedback, emphasize time on task, communicate high expectations, and respect diverse talents and ways of learning.
  • Work with Chief Academic Officer and Director of Student Advising to passionately drive retention rates
  • Participate to create proactive and early interactions with students within programs through teaching, phone calls, welcome forums, recorded videos, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS AND DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Nurse with a graduate degree with major in nursing is required; Doctoral Degree is preferred..
  • Five years of full-time professional nursing clinical experience required.
  • Two years teaching experience in an online nursing program preferred.
  • Able to hold a current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Kansas, or be eligible to obtain a Kansas Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Able to make decisions and work independently with exceptional problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Required proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Products, Internet, MS Project, course management systems, computerized assessment software, and web authoring software required
  • Knowledge of, and use of, the Blackboard Learning Management System preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with technicians and faculty
  • Knowledge of distance learning educational model required
  • Able to gather, analyze, evaluate, and integrate information electronically
  • Advance professional business writing skills required
  • In-depth knowledge of distance learning educational models, adult learning styles, and technology-assisted instruction.
  • Working knowledge of developing curriculum design required
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required
  • Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and by telephone) and in writing.
  • Able to multi-task, yet maintain close attention to detail and timeliness of work production.
  • Able to work in a positive team-oriented manner with a variety of people (students, faculty, staff, administrators, vendors, and members of the general public)
  • Language Skills: Able to read, analyze, and interpret common journals and legal documents. Able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Able to effectively present information to executive management, faculty, staff, and/or students.
  • Mathematical Skill: Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to present facts to faculty for departmental response. Able to deal with a variety of information presented in oral or written formats. Able to deal with non-verbal behavior in assisting with problem resolution.
