Infrastructure Administrator III

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, maintenance and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems. Serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for network and complex operating systems. Recommends the design and configuration of the University network, operating systems and system applications. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of service.

 

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Grantham host computers by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair.
  • Manage server network configurations, cabling, connectivity, switching, routing, firewalls, and network load balancing.
  • Develop and implement network and systems security procedures to prevent unauthorized and malicious activity and appropriately respond when such situations are discovered.
  • Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources.
  • Ensures that records of network, system changes, and system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained.
  • Plan, implement, and test all disaster recovery functions of the data centers including storage replication, application replication, and tape backups.
  • Ensure the anti-virus and malware technologies are maintained and work properly.
  • Evaluate and recommend hardware, software, and third-party solutions for continued development and improvement of the IT infrastructure.
  • Manage network infrastructure to include routing, switching, wireless, and firewall technologies.
  • Manage a SharePoint infrastructure with advanced technologies and integrations.
  • Manage Active Directory Domain Services, DNS, DFS, and DHCP.
  • Manage VMware hosts, clusters, and virtual machines.
  • Manage SAN devices and storage provisioning.
  • Manage application delivery for all web systems utilizing Windows, Linux, IIS, and Apache.
  • Will be required to act as a team lead or project manager when appropriate.
  • Will be required to manage, maintain, and develop vendor relationships.
  • Will be required to train and mentor other members of the technical team.
  • Will be required to document project activities, system interruptions, hardware/software configurations, and change management activities.
  • Collaborate with others in the IT team to deliver service requests and projects by established due dates.
  • Stay abreast of changes within the IT department and the University business systems and processes.
  • Projects a professional and courteous image of the overlying position and the IT Department to all internal and external customers.
  • All other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS AND DESIRED SKILLS:

  • 3-5+ years’ experience required
  • Baccalaureate  or Graduate degree in technology related field preferred
  • Certifications such as Security+, Cisco certifications, Network+, MCSE/MCITP, Linux+, RHCE or others a plus
  • Advanced experience with Windows and Linux server platforms.
  • Advanced experience with Apache, Tomcat, IIS web server platforms
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with deploying, maintaining, and managing an advanced SharePoint environment with clustering, Kerberos, IIS 7+, certificates.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Windows Server 2003/2008/2012 administration including Active Directory, WSUS, IIS, DNS, load balancing, clustering, DHCP, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with installing frameworks such as .NET, Ruby on Rails, LAMP stacks, Oracle Application Server, etc.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Cisco firewalls, F5 load balancers, and TCP/IP networking principles such as CIDR addressing, subnetting, and routing.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with security protocols, security tools, services and daemons, host hardening, and network virus protection
  • Firm understanding of the OSI model
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with VMware and working with virtualized servers.
  • Basic understanding of application development practices and lifecycle.
  • Basic knowledge of the underlying principles of database design and query writing (PSQL/TSQL).
  • Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and by telephone) and in writing.
  • Able to multi-task, yet maintain close attention to detail and timeliness of work production.
  • Able to work in a positive team-oriented manner with a variety of people (students, faculty, staff, administrators, vendors, and members of the general public).
  • Language Skills: Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Able to write simple correspondence.  Able to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situation to students, faculty, staff, and members of the general public.
  • Reasoning Ability: Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to present facts to faculty for departmental response. Able to deal with a variety of information presented in oral or written formats. Able to deal with non-verbal behavior in assisting with problem resolution.
