JoAnn WorkmanWhen Grantham University officially launched its Nursing degree programs in February of 2010, faculty member, JoAnn Workman, was there from the very beginning. With a strong work ethic and positive attitude that was instilled during her childhood, JoAnn has been a great asset to the department.

“I was raised in southern Minnesota on a farm with two brothers. My father worked day and often into the night to provide for us,” said JoAnn. “We went to church every Sunday and I attended Catholic Catechism every week. Instilled in me at a very early age were work ethic, honesty, compassion, and the drive for success.”

Not only does she teach various classes at Grantham, which include Health Assessment, Theories in Nursing and Nursing Leadership and Management, but she has also written multiple courses for the RN-BSN degree program.

“No matter what I ask her to do, even if it’s the last minute, she’s there to help out,” says Dr. Fairchild, Dean of the School of Nursing.

JoAnn holds a four track Master’s degree in Nursing, specializing in the Adult Psychiatric Mental Health, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Case Management and Educator Track from Saint Louis University.

“Education is very important to me; my personal attributes include, being diligent in all endeavors, honesty, hardworking, and perseverance,” JoAnn commented.

Her career goals in nursing include the pursuit of obtaining additional certifications in forensics, addictions, and child psychiatric mental health. Furthermore, she would like to provide consulting to agencies or communities and offer holistic counseling in private practice for individuals and families.

JoAnn’s final goal is to obtain her Doctorate in Nursing. “All of my goals have the same thing in common and that is to help people achieve their maximum potential,” said JoAnn. “In achieving this goal, people have to see the power within them before, during and after a crisis.”

JoAnn enjoys sharing her experiences with her nursing students and promoting and fostering creative, analytical, life-long thinkers. She wants all students to have the opportunity to achieve their goals. JoAnn states, “It is my belief that the educator is accountable for fostering a learner-centered environment, which is focused on each student’s success.”
