LENEXA, Kan., August 21, 2018 — Grantham University has begun accepting applications for this year’s Dr. Susan Fairchild Nursing Scholarship, named in honor of the founding dean of Grantham’s School of Nursing.

The scholarship, offered annually to two deserving nursing students (one graduate and one undergraduate), provides tuition and fees for two Grantham University courses.

Eligible applicants should exemplify the qualities represented by Dr. Fairchild and the profession of nursing. For example, among the requirements, applicants must write and submit a 250-500 word essay after watching the documentary “A Nurse I Am.” The paper must specifically address the student’s “commitment to remain patient-focused, explaining (his/her) common vision with of one of the four nurse role models from the documentary.”

After more than 30 years teaching nursing at the collegiate level, Dr. Fairchild came out of retirement in August 2009 to develop Grantham’s nursing programs. An author of two nursing textbooks on Perioperative Nursing Practice and Education, Dr. Fairchild was named Dean Emerita in 2013.

The scholarship application deadline is Nov. 10. For complete eligibility requirements and to apply, go to https://www.grantham.edu/scholarships/dr-susan-fairchild-nursing-scholarship.
