Lenexa, Kan. – Feb. 6, 2018 – Grantham University, a 100 percent online university, awarded the Dr. Susan Fairchild Nursing Scholarship to graduate nursing student Cameron Harris, who is pursuing a Master of Science (specialization in Nursing Education).

Harris was selected based upon her academic performance and an essay that shared her exemplary commitment to caring for and serving patients’ needs.  Each year, the nursing scholarship is open to eligible applicants pursuing a Bachelor or Master of Science in Nursing, who have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and complete a 500-word essay on patient-focused care based on the documentary “A Nurse I Am.”

“We are thrilled to award this scholarship to Cameron and welcome her to the Grantham family. Her commitment to advancing her education and such passion for the field of nursing are exactly what Dr. Fairchild advocated,” said Scott Andrews, Grantham University president and CEO. “Keeping our tuition low, evaluating transfer credits, offering options like the nursing scholarship – these are all key elements of our larger focus on enabling success for our students.”

The scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Susan Fairchild, the founding dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health. Dr. Fairchild left retirement to join the university and develop the nursing programs. During her extensive career, she taught nursing for more than 30 years at the associate, baccalaureate and master’s levels in both traditional and distance learning environments.

The university awards millions of dollars in scholarships and grants as part of its commitment to attainable, affordable education. In addition, undergraduate tuition has remained the same since 2007, and graduate-level tuition hasn’t increased since 2011.
