November 7, 2005 - Grantham University now offers a scholarship program for all active and retired federal, state and local law enforcement professionals. The Law Enforcement Scholarship program provides a tuition discount and includes the cost of all required textbooks and software.
"This scholarship was created because we want to acknowledge and thank the law enforcement professionals who protect and serve our citizens, our communities and our country every day," said Thomas M. Macon, CEO and Chairman of Grantham University. "We are proud to include this program as part of our mission to make college degrees accessible and affordable for all working adults."
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, larger law enforcement agencies were twice as likely to include college coursework as a requirement for employment in 2000 than they were in 1990. College coursework is also a requirement for new law enforcement officers in one in three State agencies.
Grantham is working with organizations like the United States Park Police, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the International Union of Police Associations to provide officers with the opportunity to earn a college degree online at their own pace when and where it is convenient for them.
Grantham University offers bachelor's degrees in Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice - Homeland Security, and Criminal Justice - Computer Science. All of these programs are designed to prepare students for a variety of positions in law enforcement and to enable current law enforcement personnel to expand their knowledge and skills.
