LENEXA, Kan. – August 10, 2016 – Students may now apply for the Dr. Susan Fairchild Nursing Scholarships, named in honor of the founding Grantham University School of Nursing dean (currently serves as a dean emerita and on Grantham University’s Healthcare Advisory Board).

Two deserving nursing students, one at the undergraduate and one at the graduate level, will receive scholarships valued up to $2,040 each that cover tuition and fees for two courses.

“We are thrilled to offer these scholarship opportunities in honor of Dr. Fairchild,” said Dr. Dana Basara, Grantham University dean of Nursing and Allied Health. “Grantham University is dedicated to helping close the gap of nursing shortages by enabling health care professionals to expand their knowledge and skills in areas of leadership, community concepts, research and evidence-based practice related to current trends and issues in today’s global society.”

Dr. Fairchild developed a greater appreciation for her profession and for teaching when she was studying for her master’s degree in nursing, and it continued throughout her doctoral degree. Dr. Fairchild joined Grantham University in August 2009 when she was asked to come out of retirement to develop the University’s nursing programs. Previously, she taught nursing for more than 30 years at the associate, baccalaureate and master’s levels in both traditional and distance learning environments, and has authored two nursing textbooks related to Perioperative Nursing Practice and Education. For her dedication and contributions to both Grantham and the nursing community, Dr. Fairchild was named Dean Emerita in October 2013 and continued to work to support the programs through spring 2014.

The scholarship application and essay must be submitted via the online application at Scholarship applications will be accepted until midnight Eastern Time on November 1, 2016.
