Lenexa, Kan. – Oct. 9, 2020 – Grantham University, an online university, announced today the winners of its Grantham University National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS) Scholarship. Dalton Carney, from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, will pursue a master’s degree in business intelligence, while Erica Marin, from Warrensburg, Missouri, will continue her bachelor’s in healthcare administration.
Carney is an intelligence officer for the Oklahoma Army National Guard where he analyzes the terrain, weather, infrastructure and culture within an environment to determine how those factors will impact decision making.
“A master’s degree in business intelligence from Grantham would enhance my ability to see further into the operational environments and generate more accurate, expansive assessments,” said Carney. “With better assessments, commanders can make better decisions.”
Marin is the spouse of a National Guard member.
“It is hard to put into words how the National Guard has impacted my family,” said Marin. “There is not a part of your life that isn’t affected by the military. I am so proud of my husband and everything he has done in his military career. That pride and loyalty is what drives us.”
"We are excited to partner with NGAUS to offer two full scholarships and to assist its members and member spouses in attaining higher education," said Dr. Anthony Petroy, president and chief academic officer of Grantham University. “We want to thank Carney for his service and Marin for the sacrifices she has made and hope this scholarship allows them to prioritize themselves and their education.”
The Grantham University NGAUS scholarship is valued at up to $14,200 and covers tuition costs, required textbooks, software and fees. To apply, applicants must be a Commissioned or Warrant Officer NGAUS member in good standing ranked 05 or below in the Army or Air National Guard, or be the spouse of a NGAUS member in good standing ranked 05 or below. In addition, applicants were asked to write an essay describing how a degree from Grantham University will assist them in the National Guard, or how the National Guard has impacted their family.
