Lenexa, Kan. January 5, 2018—Grantham University, a 100 percent online university, is partnering with Johnson County Community College as a platinum-level sponsor for the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. 50th Anniversary event on Sunday, Jan. 7 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Yardley Hall on the JCCC campus. This free event is open to the community and commemorates the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with keynote speaker Ryan M. Jones, historian with the national Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tenn., and several other special guests.

“A diverse, educated community is vital for the growth of our nation, and to continue the dream Dr. King envisioned,” said Tabitha Davis, director of university outreach for Grantham University. “Sponsoring important events such as this one is just one way Grantham celebrates diversity and the attainability of education for all students pursuing goals, dreams and improvement of not only their lives but their entire community.”

January marks the 67th year Grantham has provided attainable education options for adult learners.

"We are excited to have Grantham support this celebration and help educate others on Reverend King’s legacy and how we can continue to work to achieve his dream. Our goal is to unite people from diverse backgrounds to work toward a common goal and prove that knowledge, determination, hard work and sacrifice can make a difference." said Vivian Avery, event chairperson for the MLK 50th Anniversary. "Without this kind of sponsorship, we wouldn’t be able to bring quality programming like this to our community.”

In addition to the keynote speaker the public will be entertained by special guests: Mr. Galent Gaut, Dr. Cynthia “Mama J” Johnson, William Baker Festival Singers, and the Storling Dance Theatre. For more information about the event visit www.jccc.edu
