Partnership Leverages Online Platform to Provide Professional Association Involvement Opportunities

Kansas City, Mo. – May 10, 2012Grantham University and the Society for Human Resource Management are pleased to announce the launch of a virtual Kansas City Chapter. The Chapter is currently the only virtual Chapter in Kansas City and in Missouri, and is designed to provide students the unique opportunity to participate in networking opportunities and benefit from the professional association in the same convenient method in which they are pursuing a degree.

The Grantham University Kansas City Chapter is the first student chapter of a professional association at Grantham University. Launched internally in May 2011, the Chapter received its chapter affiliation in February 2012, and celebrated Thursday night with an official Chartering Ceremony.

This chapter is designed to support the University’s business and human resource students and is officially sponsored by SHRM-KC.  Grantham’s Career Center leadership team provides support and advises the Chapter, and Grantham covers the registration fee for students who wish to join the organization.

“The ability to have online meetings and workshops fits perfectly with the way Grantham delivers classes,” said Shanna Fowler, Grantham’s Career Services manager and chapter advisor of Grantham’s SHRM-KC Chapter. “We invite other professional associations to consider Grantham for virtual student chapters.”

Webinar technology enables the hosting of monthly meetings, educational programs and events. The chapter provides engagement and networking opportunities for students to interact with Grantham faculty and staff and human resources professionals.

The Society for Human Resource Management represents more than 250,000 members in more than 140 countries. It serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession. For more information regarding SHRM, please visit
