Kansas City, Mo. – September 6, 2013 – Grantham University, www.grantham.edu, has named Technical Sergeant (TSgt) Robert Bursee of Nashville, Tenn., as the recipient of the David “Bull” Baker Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship, valued up to $38,600, covers the cost of tuition, textbooks, software and associated fees for the completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree. TSgt Bursee is pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Created by Grantham University, the scholarship honors the late General David “Bull” Baker, a US Air Force POW who dedicated his life to honorably serving his country and the pursuit of knowledge by supporting continuing education for service members. General Baker served on Grantham’s Board of Governors from 2006 until his passing in 2009.
In his essay, TSgt Bursee, who entered the Air Force directly after high school, reflected on how an education would make a difference in his military career. “I used to be so naïve in regards to education,” he said. “I wondered when I would ever use ‘that stuff.’ Seventeen years later, I’ve come to realize that no matter what position you hold, you are empowered by education when you apply it in your day-to-day dealings.”
“General Baker’s dedication to service members pursuing their education is why we are honoring his memory through this scholarship,” said Joseph McGrath, president of Grantham University. “Based on his merits, TSgt Bursee was the perfect inaugural recipient.”
The University offers several military scholarship programs, an interactive online learning environment and a solid student support structure. Visit our degree program page or call 1-800-955-2527 for more information about Grantham University and its online degree programs.
