National Organization of Blacks In Government (BIG National) Scholarship

The National Organization of Blacks in Government (BIG) is partnering with Grantham University to award one Certificate scholarship and one full Undergraduate or Graduate scholarship, toward the degree program of their choice from the University each calendar year. Scholarship value depends on degree selected and credits transferred.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be current members of Blacks In Government (BIG).
  • Applicants must complete a 1,000 word essay discussing What the BIG 2019 National Training Institute Theme - “Your Benchmark for Achieving Excellence in the Workplace” - Means to You.
  • Applicants must meet Grantham University’s minimum admissions requirements.
  • Applicants must meet any special program admissions requirements.
  • Scholarship recipient must begin studies at Grantham University within six months of being awarded the scholarship.
  • The Scholarship is only valid in the name of the original recipient. It cannot be transferred.

As a condition of accepting the scholarship, each applicant will be asked to grant permission to Grantham University to release information contained in the scholarship application to the news media in the event that he or she is awarded this scholarship. Additionally, the scholarship recipients must provide a biography and photo for use by Grantham University.

Continuing Eligibility Requirements

  • Scholarship recipient must maintain good academic standing.
  • Scholarship recipient must remain continuously enrolled as defined in the Grantham University Catalog.

The scholarships for BIG provides an opportunity for the recipients to obtain a certificate or degree. It does not guarantee degree completion. The recipient must comply with all University policies (i.e., admissions requirements and Satisfactory Academic Progress). The scholarship will only cover the costs of the courses, textbooks, software and fees required for the recipient’s chosen certificate or degree program. Courses outside of the certificate or degree program may be taken, but at the expense of the scholarship recipients.

Scholarship applications will be accepted until midnight Eastern Time on July 6, 2020. The scholarship recipients will be selected by the BIG scholarship committee. Selection criteria include academic ability, financial need and essay submission. Big National will notify the scholarship recipient on July 22, 2020. A press release and announcement will be posted on the University’s website and the BIG’s National website at www.bignet.org.

Applicants will be notified of the Scholarship Committee’s decision via email approximately 30 days after the scholarship application deadline. Following receipt of the Scholarship Committee’s decision, the chosen recipients must respond to the Committee within 30 days indicating his or her intent to accept the scholarship. Should the chosen recipients fail to timely respond to the Committee, the scholarship will be awarded to the next highest qualifying applicants.
