Join a Veterans Voices Writing Group
Grantham University is proud to partner with Veterans Voices Writing Project to offer an avenue for our military veterans and active duty students to join a writing community that aligns with the mission of this noble organization. Veterans Voices Writing Project (VVWP) originally began in 1946 as the Hospitalized Veterans Writing Project (HVWP), an outreach program for wounded veterans returning from World War II. Volunteers went into Department of Veterans Affairs hospital wards to encourage soldiers and sailors to write their stories, thoughts, and feelings on paper. They also worked by correspondence with veterans once they left the hospital.
The Grantham University Veterans Voices Writing Group (GUVVWG) provides an avenue for our student writing enthusiasts to share their passion for writing in an on-line writing community. Our mission is to facilitate the sharing of experiences through written expression for the purpose of encouraging personal growth in an open-minded forum comprised of military veterans or active service persons. The writing groups are facilitated by Grantham University faculty members and provide a venue for our participants to share their experiences, get feedback, improve their writing skills, and build relationships with their peers. In addition, our student participants have the opportunity to submit work directly to the Veterans Voices Writing Project for publication consideration.
