LENEXA, Kan., November 14, 2018 – Grantham University, a leading provider of online college degree and certificate programs, has announced the appointment of Dr. Carol A. Romano, Rear Admiral, USPHS (Ret.), as the newest member of its Board of Governors.

Dr. Romano is professor and Dean of the Daniel K. Inouye Graduate School of Nursing at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. She is now one of six Board of Governors members, a distinguished group of appointed individuals who collectively guide and oversee the direction of Grantham’s academic program offerings.

U.S. Army (Ret), Chairman of the Board of Governors. “Her insight and experience will be invaluable to ensuring continued excellence across all Grantham programs, including its Nursing and Allied Health offerings. The Board of Governors, Grantham and thousands of students nationwide will undoubtedly benefit from Dr. Romano’s participation. ”

Dr. Romano has served in a variety of leadership positions within the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) in the Office of the Surgeon General (OSG), including Acting Deputy Surgeon General, Acting Chief of Staff OSG, Director of the Office of Reserve Affairs, and Chief Nurse Officer of USPHS.

A fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and the American College of Medical Informatics, she spent 34 years at the National Institutes of Health, Clinical Research Center, and was co-architect of the world’s first graduate curriculum in nursing informatics at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. Dr. Romano also served as advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) for management of manpower and health information in developing countries.

She earned her Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Ph.D. in Nursing all from the University of Maryland School of Nursing, and is board certified in nursing informatics and as an advanced nurse executive.
