LENEXA, Kan., July 24, 2017 – Nearly 300 graduates of Grantham University’s 100 percent online degree programs will travel to Kansas City, Missouri, for the school’s annual commencement ceremony August 5th. To be held at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, the unique graduation ceremony enables Grantham graduates from across the world to meet their instructors and student advisors face-to-face for the first time. For the 2017 commencement ceremony, approximately 1,600 graduates from as far away as Germany were invited to attend.

“The Grantham community is looking forward to the time together with our graduates in celebration of their hard work and persistence in earning their degrees,” said Scott Andrews, president and CEO of Grantham University. “Our students balance education with the responsibilities of work, family, community and in many cases service to our country. They model this commitment with an eye to the future and a dedication to learning. Graduation is a unique time to pause and give thanks alongside our students. We are excited for each of them, as advances in their careers and lives unfold.”

Commencement keynote speaker Michele Jones, president and CEO of The Bones Theory Group, LLC, is a career Soldier who held the highest non-commissioned officer position of any woman in the Army prior to retirement. In her speech, Jones, who is a highly sought-after motivational and transformational speaker, will highlight Grantham’s commitment to helping all adult learners, including active military and veteran students, through education.

Alumnus Lindsey Streeter (’12), vice president of sales and marketing at Bank of America, is this year’s alumni speaker and demonstrates the persistence of Grantham’s adult learners who are also serving in the military. A retired Command Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army, Streeter attributes his graduate degree with equipping him with the tools and confidence to provide recommendations for the Department of the Army’s Sexual Harassment Assault Response and Prevention program as a Program Analyst.

MBA in Project Management graduate Michael W. Shrader said, “Grantham allowed me to obtain my master’s degree at my own pace while being active duty military, along with being a father and husband. My degree and studies prepared me for pursuing a career in project management.”

Today, the university proudly serves a broad population of adult learners – from our nation’s honored military and public service to corporate America and those desiring education for personal and professional advancement. Of the graduates invited to the 2017 Commencement ceremony, more than 300 will have earned their second Grantham degree.

“Being a student at Grantham University has been the best decision I have made in my academic development,” said graduate Jose Lopez-Berrios, who is receiving a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. “I appreciate the flexibility and support from professors and advisors who guided me every step of the way.”
