LENEXA, Kan. – January 31, 2017
 – Grantham University, and the National Organization of Blacks in Government (BIG), Inc are pleased to announce Natasha Reed as this year’s recipient of a full scholarship valued up to $39,471.

Ms. Reed is a licensed civil engineer employed by the Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center in Port Hueneme, CA.  She is a member of Region IX, Ventura County BIG Chapter.

In her scholarship essay, Ms. Reed stated, “I would like to pursue a master’s degree in business.  I travel constantly for work and it is normal for me to not only be the only woman, but also the only person of color.  My goal is to break down the barriers in the math and science fields. I plan to do this through starting a foundation that helps mentor young women of color.”

“Grantham University serves an extremely diverse student population and we are once again proud to partner with BIG and provide equal educational and professional development opportunities for black government employees,” said Dr. Cheryl Hayek, interim university president and provost. “Ms. Reed’s desire to give back is an inspiration and we are excited to support her throughout her journey as a Grantham student.”
