Kansas City, Mo. – March 22, 2011 – In a Legion de Lafayette donor ceremony held at the National Guard Memorial Building on Saturday, March 12th, Grantham University, a 61 year old institution delivering accredited online degrees to working adult students around the world, was recognized as one of the first educational institutions to support the National Guard Educational Foundation’s (NGEF) mission to create awareness of the rich heritage and continuing contributions of the National Guard of the United States.
"We are humbled to receive such a generous donation that will go a long way in our efforts to tell the National Guard story to the American public," said Maj. Gen. Frank Vavala, the NGAUS and NGEF chairman of the board.
“Supporting and developing partnerships with organizations like the National Guard Educational Foundation is integral to the University’s constitution and to our mission,” said Dr. Fredrick Snow, president of Grantham University. “It is an honor to support the NGEF’s vital work.”
Founded in 1951, Grantham University is one of the oldest, private, post-secondary, degree-granting distance education universities in the United States. Grantham was founded by a veteran of World War II with a mission to give veterans returning from the war the option to continue their education and the opportunity to further their careers and create a better life for their families. Sixty years after its founding, serving those who serve remains at the heart of the institution’s mission.
“In recognition of the University’s sixtieth anniversary, we are renewing Mr. Grantham’s vision by expanding current initiatives and developing several new institutional initiatives focused on educational and employment related issues commonly faced by our military spouses, veterans and active duty military members,” commented Dr. Snow. “Military spouse scholarships, expanded degree program offerings, career service resources and other scholarship opportunities will allow us to further our service to those who serve through education, personal and professional development, and the building of a successful life.”
Grantham University’s accredited online degree programs are flexible and portable, allowing students to fit education into their life instead of arranging life around their education. The University offers a variety of associate, bachelor and master’s online degrees in areas such as Business Administration, Business Intelligence, Business Management, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Engineering Technology, Health Sciences, Human Resource Management, Information Systems Security, and Medical Coding and Billing.

Established in 1975 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, the National Guard Educational Foundation's (NGEF) goal is to tell the Guard's story. Independent of the National Guard Association of the United States, but co-located in the National Guard Memorial Building in Washington, D.C., the NGEF relies solely on charitable contributions. The purpose of the NGEF is to achieve an awareness of the rich heritage and continuing contributions of the National Guard of the United States.
